Hello Fish Fans, The late arrival of Mahi Mahi and Tuna has delivered a hit and miss bite. We’ve caught some nice fish and had some good days but the last six weeks has been disappointing overall. The dolphin and tuna bite should be red hot this time of year off the coast of Stuart. Hopefully the strong easterly winds pushing through right now will deliver the bite we’ve been waiting for when we get back out.
Although the dolphin bites been slower than usual we’ve been catching 10 to 25 pound dolphin with a few mini mahi in the mix. The constantly changing wind directions have scattered Sargasso weeds all about and the dolphin have been scattered about as well. May is usually prime time for big dolphin off the coast of Stuart and slammer dolphin of 25 to 55 pounds should be pushing through this month.
Blackfin tuna usually start showing up in numbers during April and we’re still waiting. I expect they’ll show up reel soon and look forward to putting more sushi in the box. We’ve been catching a few and some over 20 pounds but it’s been a bit hit and miss.
The sailfish bite turns on and off as they pass through but we’ve been getting 1 to 3 sailfish bites on most days. They’ve been scattered about and we’ve caught them everywhere from 80 feet of water on out to 600 feet of water while hunting down a dolphin bite.
Big king mackerel are starting to show up along the reefs and wrecks. kingfish of 20 to 30 pounds are abundant this time of year and 50 to 60 pound kingfish are always a possibility this time of year.
We fished the Bahamas side last weekend for our first Bahamas Fishing Adventure of the year. We didn’t find a tuna bite but caught dolphin, wahoo and a white marlin. We’ll be heading back to the Bahamas again this weekend for a 3 day trip and plan to mix it up with dolphin, wahoo, marlin and deep dropping for snappers and grouper. The yellowfin tuna bite goes off in June and July so give us a call and get hooked up with a fishing adventure you’ll not soon forget.
We finally closed on our new 42′ Viking Express and almost ready to replace the 35′ Cabo Express Reel Busy. The final step is installing the Seakeeper system and she’ll be ready to catch fish.
